This event will be held on Saturday, April 12, from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM and will provide students with both skills practice and skills testing required for BLS certification. The American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Course is designed to equip healthcare providers with the essential skills needed to recognize and respond to life-threatening emergencies. Training will cover high-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants, the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), effective ventilations with a barrier device, relief of choking in responsive and unresponsive victims, and the importance of early recognition and intervention in cardiac arrest situations. Following the hands-on practice session, students will complete the skills testing component necessary for certification. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive their AHA BLS Provider e-card certification via email. All necessary equipment for training will be provided by Dr. Risavi. An excel sign-up sheet will be available for students to register, with a maximum of 25 participants allowed. Students will adhere to current LECOM COVID regulations throughout the event. This is an excellent opportunity to develop life-saving skills, interact with fellow students, and gain an essential certification for clinical rotations and future medical practice. Dr. Queen will present to us about ultrasound techniques frequently used in the Emergency Department, followed by a short interactive activity for students to participate in. It will give our members the chance to interact with a healthcare provider within the community and understand ultrasound as a skill. All equipment for the interactive ultrasound activity will be provided by Dr. Queen. We will also have Dr. Risavi present to teach students about tourniquets and offer practice with obtaining blood pressure. The EM Club and Dr. Risavi will provide the tourniquets and blood pressure cuffs. Students will bring their own stethoscopes. A sign-up sheet will be provided for students to participate, and students will be asked to fill out COVID screening forms to adhere to COVID Regulations.
